DESIGNER BIO

Texture has always been something I am subconsciously drawn to. I incorporate texture in my everyday life. I love to surround myself with it, especially when it comes to the way I dress myself. My specialty is knitwear. I am experienced on both on the Domestic (single bed) and Dubied (double bed) Knitting Machines. Furthermore, I have basic knowledge of the Shima Knitting Machine and how to programme it using its software. I understand the process of creating knitted garments (shaping and calculations) as well as years of practice with an extensive breadth of textural techniques . I prefer having my knits be handmade with the manual machines however I do utilize the Shima for its quick knit-out time. I am incredibly inspired by nature and folklore, centring Northern tales and translating these narratives into physical, textural pieces. My practice is lead by intuition and my own creative aspirations. I tend to create one-off handmade knit accessories; thus, the techniques I often use are textural and 3D: Pleats, Ribs, Inlay, Scalloped edges and Lace. I have perfected these methods plus designed some my own needle arrangements and configurations to create the desired look. My past 3 projects at university have been dedicated to knit wearables and texture, inspired by North-Western English Folklore. This is something I aim to continue doing in the future. Collaboration is integral in my practice; I am prone to doing contextual, editorial photoshoots with my pieces, envisioning them in a setting and pairing them together. I style, facilitate and envision these photoshoots in the hope that they convey a narrative and evoke feelings in whomever may see them.
